OCTAX - Laser ShotTM   
 

OCTAX Laser ShotTM is the next generation laser system for ART, featuring digital control, treatment, video and image processing. Highest precision components of German and Swiss origin guarantee outstanding optical and mechanical quality. Our laser is the first laser system for ART that was evaluated in a multicenter study and was proven to be safe. Almost all scientific papers describing the use of a laser for ART are based on the OCTAX laser or its predecessor, Fertilase®. Today, it is the only laser whose safety was analyzed and validated in a follow-up study on children born after laser assisted hatching.

Laser Shot

The OCTAX Laser Shot system is based on an infrared laser system that was originally developed at the École Polytéchnique Fédéral de Lausanne (EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland) and the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV, Lausanne, Switzerland) (Rink et al., 1994).

An indium-gallium-arsenic-phosphorus (InGaAsP) laser diode emitting at a wavelength of 1,48 μm is coupled to an inverted microscope and the laser beam is directed along the microscope optical axis. The spatial arrangement of lenses and mirrors within the laser unit allows focusing of the laser beam at the image plane of the microscope objective and allows a non-touch procedure. The microscope is equipped with a heating stage to ensure optimal conditions for oocytes, zygotes and spermatozoa. The infrared 1,48 μm wavelength is nonmutagenic and thus, makes it ideal for ART.
